NAACP Fights for Home Care Justice: Opposing Changes to New York's CDPAP

Ramon Trotman

The new law altering New York’s Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) will significantly limit access to home care for sick and disabled individuals, particularly impacting communities of color. The CDPAP allows individuals to choose their caregivers, often relatives or friends, funded by Medicaid, ensuring culturally and linguistically appropriate care.

The Jamaica NAACP Branch urges Gov. Hochul and the Legislature to reconsider, emphasizing that these changes will worsen health disparities and harm vulnerable populations reliant on this essential program.
